Commencement

Graduation Date: Friday, June 7th 2013
Place: River Room, St. Paul's Church, Downtown Augusta, Georgia

Summary: Class of 2013: The 50th commencement of the Department of Ophthalmology.

Continuing in the same location we chose for last year's graduation we returned for our annual education and celebration event. These festivities occurred after the close of the day's educational meetings. Dr. Weiss, our faculty, residents and spouses returned for cocktails and interaction before the evening's banquet. Also invited were our technical staff and their spouses from the VAMC, the clinic, our front desk and the operating rooms.

There were many educational talks this year. All 9 of the residents presented their research in the morning sessions. The ophthalmic research of the Georgia Regents University occurs under the umbrella of the James and Jean Culver Vision Discovery Institute. This institute has at its core a focus on translational research and this was clearly reflected in the resident research projects. These projects stretched from strictly basic science to strictly clinical with a number of talks involving both ends of the spectrum.
