During 1st & 2nd Year

The 1st and 2nd year of medical school are an important foundation for your future career as a health care professional. The Office of Student Affairs team is here to support and guide you on this journey so that you will be prepared for the road ahead.

We offer a number of programs and initiatives designed to support you in various ways, such as career and academic advising, peer tutoring, creating a good relationship with your Advisor, helping you choose a clinical campus and much more. As always, please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.

Career & Academic Advising:

There are many ways that OSA supports you! In terms of Career Advising, make sure to check out the many student interest groups on campus, schedule a chat with your Advisor or Class Dean and don't forget to attend our seminars on research and other summer opportunities! For academic support, keep an eye on your email to see if you qualify for peer tutoring through our Supplemental Instruction Program (SIP), attend a workshop or schedule a meeting to discuss your learning styles or get tips to bolster your time management and study skills, which are essential elements of success. Heard of our regional campuses? Pay attention during the bus tours, as each site will provide important information to help you make the right choice and find a site that is the best fit for you. Don't forget to consider taking advantage of one of our exciting summer opportunities, either to do research or study abroad.

Volunteering/Service Learning

There is a service learning requirement of a minimum of 10 hours per semester. With the plethora of clubs, volunteer activities, events and student run free clinics available, there is no shortage of ways to fulfill the requirement! The first step is to visit our Service Learning page and, if you have any questions after reviewing that page, feel free to contact mcgmedstudent@augusta.edu.

Policies & Procedures:

OSA closely follows AAMC policies, so make sure that you are aware of them.

Review the Student-Advisor Compact for more information regarding your relationship and communication with your Advisor. Another important document to be aware of is the Student Promotions Policy and Procedure, which provides all of the guidelines and requirements for graduation. Also, don't forget that if you need a letter of recommendation, you need to follow the proper guidelines for placing a request. Review our Letters of Recommendation Policy for more information. Additionally, please be aware of the Blood and Body Fluid Exposure Protocol and current practices.
