Research

Investigators at the Georgia Prevention InstituteGPI are dedicated to the research and discovery of today's most prevalent health conditions that occur in both children and adults.

In addition, all research programs incorporate questions that address today's health disparities between sex and race. Researchers work together with colleagues across campus to identify and answer questions that will assist in the treatment and prevention of disease.

Over the years, the GPI has data and samples on multiple cohorts of subjects.  These include a cohort that was established in 1989 by Frank Treiber.  This cohort has been tested 16 times over the course of 23 years.  Across all our studies, the GPI has over 10,000 subject visits per year and collects over 60,000 samples per year on approximately equal numbers of males and females and blacks and whites.  Extra samples from our subjects are housed in 18 freezers at our freezer farm.
