I have been a practicing professional registered nurse for several years with more than 20 years of academic and family nurse practitioner experience to include curriculum development, instruction, and faculty practice in high risk settings (Emergency Department, Women Health, Occupational-Wellness Clinic and the West Central Georgia Health District/Public Health Department (Ryan White HIV Clinic)). In addition, I have served on the West Central Georgia Cancer Coalition for 3 years, providing mobile unit primary prevention services to rural, medically underserved women in a 12-county catchment area in West Central Georgia. As a senior and lead faculty for Augusta University’s DNP Program, my role as course and clinical coordinator for large student populations in on-line didactic platform affords me a skill set for managing and evaluating student performances in primary care to include adult health, pediatrics and geriatrics. In addition, my long-term relationship in working with the Area Health Education Consortium (AHEC) and the stakeholders at the distant AU campus (Columbus), has strengthened the options for clinical site placement partnerships over time to benefit the students and helped to broaden the footprint and create the presence of academia among vulnerable populations throughout the state of Georgia. These experiences are well matched to enable me to provide support for curriculum development, specialty rotations and faculty mentorship within the proposed FNP Residency Program.
