Dr. Young earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice in Nursing Executive Leadership from Jacksonville University. With more than 30 years of diverse nursing experience, Dr. Young has developed expertise in medical-surgical nursing, oncology, acute medically complex care, brain injury, physical rehabilitation, care facilitation, nursing education, and executive leadership and management. She served at Augusta University College of Nursing as a variable part-time clinical and simulation instructor for eight years before transitioning into her current role as full-time faculty.
Dr. Young's teaching interests include the instruction of nursing leadership principles, team coordination, quality improvement, and evidence-based management strategies to prepare future nurse leaders. She is committed to supporting students’ transition to entry-level practice by emphasizing clinical competency, NCLEX readiness, professional accountability, and the practical application of nursing standards. Additionally, her teaching focus encompasses foundational and advanced concepts in acute, chronic, and medically complex patient care, with a strong emphasis on patient safety, prioritization, and holistic practice.
Dr. Young’s research and clinical interests focus on advancing evidence-based practices that enhance patient outcomes, strengthen clinical judgment, and support high-quality care delivery across medically complex populations. She is particularly interested in nursing education innovation, clinical competency development, care coordination, and strategies that promote patient safety and reduce health disparities. Clinically, her areas of focus include acute and chronic disease management, oncology, medically complex patient care, and rehabilitation nursing, with an emphasis on holistic, patient-centered approaches.
