Literacy Leaders Learning Community

The Literacy Leaders Learning Community (LLLC) is a unique enrollment opportunity for freshman and sophmore interested in careers that help support future generations of learners and their communities.

Start off your college experience being a part of a small learning community focused on developing the literacy leaders of tomorrow. Through outreach programs, workshops, career-building activities, and service, Literacy Leaders will develop a strong core of literacy understanding, build professional skills to enhance future careers, and deepen their understanding of the connection between literacy and equitable opportunities for all.

What to Expect

Transition from high school to college by building a strong network of like-minded learners. As a member of the LLLC you will:

  • Participate in service opportunities at the HUB
  • Attend workshops to assist in your transition to college
  • Participate in community and service-learning events

About the Program

Space in the LLLC is limited Cohort will be accepting 20 students for 2024-25 semester.

Literacy Leaders will be connected early in their academic career with the College of Education & Human Development (COEHD), the Harris Literacy Center, and other students who are interested in careers that help to support future generations of learners and their communities. Through outreach programs, workshops, career-building activities, and service, Literacy Leaders will develop a strong core of literacy understanding, build professional skills to enhance future careers, and deepen their understanding of the connection between literacy and equitable opportunities for all.

Benefits of Participating

  • Receive a yearly stipend ($250.00)
  • Participate in ongoing leadership activities
  • Attend a local/regional conference annually
  • Gain special access to academic advisors and exemplary educators
  • Work with local K-12 schools and other student-serving organizations
  • Serve the Harris Literacy Center, as part of the Hub of Community Innovation
  • Participate in research opportunities at the Harris Literacy Center
  • Explore and plan for career opportunities in education and human services
  • Participate in a cohort Inquiry 1000 class to map their LC and professional plan

  • Complete the Literacy Leaders Learning Community Application
