  • Services Learning – Engage in global community service projects and earn clinical experience/credit

Who Can Participate?

  • Are you at least 18-years old and currently enrolled at Augusta University?
  • Will you have junior-level standing by the time of departure (Exceptions may be made by the Study Abroad Office based on academic standing and previous travel experience)?
  • Are you in good academic and disciplinary standing?
  • Have a clear academic, professional, or personal development goal for travel?

Why Choose Independent Student Travel?

  • Flexibility – Choose your destination, program, and duration
  • Customized Experience – Tailor your experience to fit your academic and career goals
  • Unique Opportunities – conduct research, intern with a global organization, study at a foreign university as an international student, go through a different American university as a transient student, or participate in a third-party provider program

    • USG Study Abroad Directory of USG schools participating in study abroad programs
    • CIS Abroad – semesters abroad, internship opportunities
    • AU Career Services to explore other internship opportunities abroad
  • Register with the Study Abroad Office – Students must register their travel with the Study Abroad Office at least three months before departure to ensure a smooth approval process.
  • Submit Required documents – Approval requires attending a planning meeting with the Study Abroad Office and completing all necessary forms, including travel details, proof of insurance, and any required agreements.
  • Stay Connected – Our team is here to assist you before, during, and after your journey. Keep in touch for safety updates and guidance.

Health, Safety & Risk Management

Your safety is our priority. All IST students must:

  • Register their travel with the Study Abroad Office and provide emergency contact details
  • Complete all required documentation including Pre-Travel Risk Assessment Form and enroll in STEP.
  • Stay informed about visa requirements, local laws, and travel advisories. (https://www.state.gov/countries-areas/)

Travel Advisories

Students are discouraged from traveling to countries/areas that are currently under a U.S. Department of State Travel Advisory Level 3. Travel to countries/areas under a Level 4 Advisory is prohibited. The risk of injury, detention, and death is significantly greater for many areas within these Travel Advisory Levels. Augusta University cannot fully assess those risks or provide services in the event of an in-country emergency.
