MCG researchers address ARDS-related vascular issues
Vascular biologists in MCG have spent years developing treatments for acute respiratory distress syndrome from pneumococcal pneumonia.
The Summerville Interdisciplinary Research Office (SIRO) is pleased to provide this easy to use resource for faculty and staff to find information to aid in their professional growth and development related to research.
Our office reaches across colleges, to assist researchers on all campuses in learning about research practices and to find collaborative groups. This will also be a source for introducing faculty to the SIRO where we help to identify funding opportunities, develop proposals, and manage post award for grants, as well as oversight for the conduct of research project and/or contract.

I work to develop a culture of research that spans across disciplines through the development of research infrastructure in the areas of humanities, education, business, and science research. Contact me if you want to collaborate with other researchers or have general questions about getting involved in research.
Walidah Walker
Manager, Interdisciplinary Research
I support Augusta University investigators across colleges to develop and submit research grants and contracts. I encourage faculty to visit the Summerville Interdisciplinary Research Office to learn more about identifying funding opportunities, proposal development, and the management of post-award activities.
Marvin Harris
Grant Development Specialist II
I support faculty in the development, preparation, and submission of grant and contract proposals. I also help in post-award activities including the reconciliation of project budgets and preparing budget reports to meet project goals and federal requirements.
Ashley Stevens
Grant Development Specialist I
I provide grant administrative oversight and contribute to the proposal submission process by assisting faculty with proposal development. I can help with the required internal and external forms and prepare applications for electronic routing.
To assist faculty in identifying potential sponsors, the Department of Sponsored Programs Administration provides access to sponsor web sites, an alphabetical listing with links directly to sponsor home pages, and to Grants.gov, announcements of funding by various federal and private sponsors.

"By working with study volunteers to co-design study protocols, we can design studies that are more patient-centered and culturally sensitive," says Christy Ledford, PhD.
“This suggests that targeting senescent cells with senolytics could be a game-changer for sepsis treatment,” says Raghavan Raju, PhD.
“By understanding this basic mechanism, we will be able to target this pathway and develop new therapeutic strategies against cancer,” says Santhakumar Manicassamy, PhD.
