The African American Male Initiative (AAMI) is a leadership development program designed to cultivate the talents and abilities of any Black student who identifies as a man. AAMI works to support their academic and future career goals through mentorship and community building.

Program Information

  • AAMI students earn a higher GPA when compared with the overall Black male population.
  • AAMI students are retained at a higher rate when compared with the overall Black male population.
  • Opportunities for increased campus involvement.
  • Exclusive training and events on topics such as academic success, financial literacy, and professional development.
  • Exclusive social events.
  • Opportunities to connect with mentors and peers while building a community within the program.

Students accepted into the program will:

  • Attend the AAMI Retreat before the start of the fall semester.
  • Enroll in the AAMI-specific Inquiry 1000 in the fall semester and Leadership 2000 in the spring semester.
  • Complete two academic check-ins per semester with program staff.
  • Attend four inclusivity events per semester.
  • Meet with their assigned peer mentor monthly.

AAMI First-Year Application

AAMI applications open each year in January for accepted first-year students.

AAMI Mentor Application

Apply to serve as an AAMI mentor for the 2024-2025 school year before January 26, 2024.
