Message from the Program Director

I am pleased to welcome you here at the Department of Psychiatry's Addition Medicine Fellowship. We have been awarded a competitive HRSA grant which gives us stable funding of four fellows per year.

The rotations have been redesigned to reflect the real world problems seen in addiction with special emphasis on a community based approach. This fellowship program includes, but extends beyond, the traditional Hospital based setting to incorporate woman and their at-risk children, transitioning incarcerated men and woman, and the Veteran population as seen at the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center here in Augusta GA. The cross rotations at the VAMC’s introduce the fellows to the concepts and tools for navigating clinical care when pain, opioid use, and mental health intersect. Education and research will be emphasized with a robust Addiction and Psychiatric Grand Round experience featuring core Faculty as well as guest lecturers from within Augusta University and national experts. We welcome and encourage a diverse makeup to our fellowship classes from a varied clinical backgrounds. Our program is designed to prepare our fellows for board certification and the independent practice of addiction medicine.
