The Thyroid/Parathyroid Center at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University is a specialized multidisciplinary center including the expertise of endocrinologists, surgeons and radiologists dedicated to providing outstanding medical and surgical care for patients with thyroid and parathyroid disease.

Thyroid/Parathyroid Surgical

Dr. Terris is Surgical Director of the Thyroid / Parathyroid Center and a pioneer in robotic and minimally invasive thyroid and parathyroid surgery. He has published four books and more than 200 articles, and does several hundred thyroid and parathyroid operations each year.

Dr. Terris went to college at Cornell University and medical school at Duke University. His surgical training was at Stanford University. After nine years on the faculty at Stanford, he became Chairman of Otolaryngology at the Medical College of Georgia, (now Augusta University). 

In 2014, Dr. Terris stepped down from the chair position in order to focus on his clinical practice.

Thyroid/Parathyroid Surgical 

Dr. Weir obtained his M.D. degree at the University of South Carolina. He completed his Otolaryngology residency at the University of Cincinnati and his Fellowship in Head and Neck Surgical Oncology at the University of Alabama. 

Dr. Weir is a surgical member of the Augusta University Thyroid/Parathyroid center and has special expertise in the management of thyroid nodules and thyroid cancer. He has a particular interest in surgery for goiter, especially those that are substernal.

Thyroid/Medical

Dr. Chin obtained his medicine degree at the Medical College of Georgia. He completed his residency at the University of Rochester and his Fellowship in Endocrinology and Metabolism at the prestigious National Institutes of Health. He was on faculty at UAB before coming to Augusta University.

Dr. Chin is Medical Director of the Thyroid / Parathyroid Center and his clinical activities focus on the treatment of patients with thyroid cancer and nodules. He does more than 200 ultrasound-guided biopsies of the thyroid gland each year.

Parathyroid/Medical

Dr. Mulloy went to college at Texas A&M University and then attended the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. He is currently Chief of the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism and is Senior Associate Vice President of Clinical Research Administration at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University.

Dr. Mulloy has a very specialized clinical practice which focuses on parathyroid disorders and bone endocrinology. He has published widely on this topic and is frequently consulted for these conditions.

Dr. Long obtained her M.D. degree at Georgetown University School of Medicine. She completed her Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery residency at Columbia University and Weill Cornell Medicine in New York. She completed her fellowship in Head and Neck Surgery and Microvascular Reconstruction at the University of Miami.

Dr. Long is a surgical member of the Augusta University Thyroid/Parathyroid center and treats patients with thyroid nodules, thyroid cancer, and thyroid goiter.

What We Do

This “one-stop care” approach serves patients with the full range of structural and functional thyroid and parathyroid disorders. State-of-the-art diagnostic tests include 3-dimensional functional parathyroid scanning and high-resolution ultrasound imaging.  Advanced surgical techniques are offered such as endoscopic (minimally invasive) thyroid and parathyroid surgery, and ultrasound-guided fine needle biopsy for the diagnosis and treatment of thyroid and parathyroid conditions such as hyperparathyroidism and hypercalcemia, thyroid nodules, multinodular goiters, thyroid cancer, hyperthyroidism.
