Education and Training

The Department of Oral Biology is charged with teaching the Basic Science curricula at the pre- and postdoctoral levels.  The faculty of the department are uniquely qualified for this task given the fact that aside from holding  PhD. degrees in a range of basic science disciplines, most faculty also hold degrees in dentistry, medicine or  pharmacy.  The unique background of the Oral Biology faculty is conducive to tailoring teaching of basic sciences to the needs of the dental medicine professional.

Research/Scholarly Activity

The Oral Biology faculty is engaged in research activities consistent with the research emphasis of Augusta University. This is composed of not only oral/dental-relevant areas including adhesive dentistry, bone biology, periodontal wound healing/regeneration, salivary gland and biomaterials, but also Augusta University-wide areas of focus including renal and cardiovascular disease, obesity and diabetes, and cancer.  Thus, the Oral Biology faculty regularly publishes in a wide range of dental and medical journals.  It is noteworthy that the Oral Biology faculty holds joint appointments in the College of Graduate Studies which is highly conducive to their collaborative work with Augusta University faculty in the Colleges of Medicine, Allied Health and Nursing.
