Augusta University offers two exceptional dental hygiene programs designed to equip you with the knowledge and skills needed to excel in this rewarding field. Whether you're just starting your dental hygiene journey or seeking to advance your existing career, we have a program tailored to your needs. The Dental Hygiene BS entry level program requires a full-time, on-campus commitment. The Dental Hygiene BS online degree completion program is designed for registered dental hygienists who are graduates of associate degree dental hygiene programs.

Our Program

Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene

The Augusta University BS-DH program is accredited by the American Dental Association's Commission on Dental Accreditation. It requires completion of 60 semester hours of core curriculum before entering the program to complete the final two years of DH curriculum. Students must also complete University System of Georgia graduation requirements prior to earning the BS-DH degree.

Personal interviews are required for the admissions process. Applicants who meet the minimum requirements and submit all application documents by the deadline are granted an interview.

Program application deadline is April 1. Classes begin in the Fall (August) semester only. Please visit the Office of Admissions to obtain the most current program information.

Bachelor of Science Degree Completion Program

Our BS-DH Degree Completion Program is designed for dental hygiene graduates of accredited associate degree programs. The curriculum is offered completely online to accommodate students who are already gainfully employed. Part-time study is permitted. Prior to application, students are strongly encouraged to complete all University System of Georgia graduation and core curriculum requirements. Students must complete the core curriculum (60 hours) and Degree Completion Program (30 hours) before being awarded Professional Credit (30 hours) prior to graduation.

Completion Program General Admissions Requirements

  • Minimum of an associate degree with a major in dental hygiene from a program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation.
  • Applicants may start Fall, Spring, or Summer. Submit application by June 1 for Fall entry, by October 1 for Spring entry, and by March 1 for Summer entry. Applications and supporting materials received after the program deadline will be considered on a space-available basis only.
  • Official transcripts are required from ALL colleges attended. Transcripts should be mailed to the Augusta University Office of Academic Admissions directly from the Registrar's Office of the institution. Applicants may also deliver or mail official transcripts to the OAA if the transcript remains in the original, unopened, sealed, and stamped/signed envelope from the institution's Registrar's Office.
  • A minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale on previous college work is required for consideration.
  • Two letters of recommendation are required
  • Applicants whose first language is not English must submit official TOEFL scores. A minimum score of 213 (computer-based exam) or 550 (paper exam) is required for consideration.
