General Organization
The Neurosurgical Residency program includes seven years of training. The resident will be introduced to the fundamentals of neurosurgical patient care during the first year of training. The subsequent six years of training will include progressive autonomy in Neurosurgical patient care once competencies have been achieved in specified areas. The resident will gain experience in basic neurosciences through rotations in Neurology, Neuropathology, Neuroradiology, Neurosurgical Anesthesia, Neuro Ophthalmology, and Neuro Oncology over the course of training. The sixth year of training may be dedicated to research, to increase clinical experience in Neurosurgical subspecialties, or a combination of both. In the final year of training, the resident will assume the role of Chief resident.
Facilities: The Neurosurgical Residency Program extensively utilizes Augusta University Medical Center, and the Children's Hospital of Georgia.
