My teaching areas include research methods, research seminars, professional issues, health care delivery systems, adult education and instructional methods. My teaching focuses on ways to facilitate critical thinking, including problem-based learning. I am a fellow of the American Council on Education (ACE) Fellows program (2009-2010).
My current research focuses on patient-family centered care and the use of outcomes to improve student learning, patient education, and quality of life. My educational research focuses on using standardized tests such as the NSSE and CLA to assess student engagement, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making. My clinical interests include asthma management, sleep disordered breathing, noise exposure in health care settings, patient education and assessment of quality of life. I am credentialed as a registered respiratory therapist (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care and am an inaugural Fellow of the American Association for Respiratory Care (FAARC).
