Bio

I am a PhD in Toxicology (Neuroscience and Pharmacology) and have an extensive training in Neuropharmacology, neuroimmunology and Neurobiology. My lab is currently working on Brain Injury induced neuroinflammation, PTE and senescence. Heterogenous nature of TBI and stroke attracts our attention towards it and encourages us to elucidate the mechanism behind TBI-induced inflammation and subsequent secondary injury progression. I have a total of 4673 citations with h-index 35 with a total publication 88 to date. I have been associated with many societies such as, NNS, AHA, Sigma Xi etc., taught various courses at AU, and given my service to mentor students and on institutional committees. I have served as editor on special issues and in the editorial board of Frontier and Biomed Journals, and served as reviewers for many journals, grant agencies and scientific societies. Teaching Interests

1. CURS 2990 A and CURS 3990 E : Undergraduate research I and II-Mentoring 5 undergraduate students for the theses. Students are enrolled with Center for Undergraduate Research Studies.

2.BMNN-5101 (A) (Nervous system & Neuroscience I); 2021 Oral Biology and Diagnostic Sciences, Dental College of Georgia, Augusta University, Augusta. The program includes lecture on “blood supply of CNS, Skull and meninges of Brain and Neuroanatomy. The lectures were evaluated as “A” by Dental College of Georgia.

3. MEDI 5088; 2020 AU Medical scholar program. The program includes lecture on research update, monthly discussion with Clinicians and researchers, and mentoring medical students. Each Semester 2-3 students are assigned to the lab, who works according to schedule to acquire research skills.

5. BIOM 8040 / 8050 / 8060; Laboratory Rotation. The program includes rotation of undergrad students from The Graduate School to acquire lab essence and get used of research work.

6. OBMP/OBPR 9010 (M); 2019; AU Graduate Oral Biology Course (Graduate Oral Biology Seminar Series). I gave single lecture for 1 h to DCG audience on immune regulation by cannabinoid system.

7. BIOL 4700; 2018; Advanced Cell Biology course for AU undergraduates (2 lectures, each for 1 h). These two lectures were based on cellular signaling mediated by NF-kB and JAK/STAT.

8. NEURO8310: Advanced Topics in Neuroscience; 2017-present; AU Graduate School of Neuroscience and Regenerative Medicines. My role is as ad-hoc facilitator in absence of Dr. Dhandapani to conduct the journal club on Wednesday and facilitate the talks. On average, it includes 2-4 sessions.

9. Neurotoxicology lab modules; 2006-2013; JH Master Students, Hamdard University, New Delhi. The modules required to teach neurochemical and neurobehavioral techniques to Masters Student. It also required to mentor 2-3 students per semester for master dissertation in the final semester.

10. AP Chemistry; 2008; Manya Education Pvt. Ltd. New Delhi. I was involved in teaching online US/UK based undergrad/Graduate student for Chemistry online, and help them to build concepts regarding organic formulations, chemical reactions and covalent bonding. It involved 5-8 students’ interaction per session each day.

11. Primary and Middle School Science; 2002-2004; Oxford Academy, Patna. As a teacher, I was responsible to conduct the class for Science subjects, to complete the curriculum within time, and to conduct exam to evaluate performance of students.

Research Interests

Our interest lies in mechanistic aspects of brain injury and consecutive inflammation and neurodegeneration. TBI/ICH is heterogenous in its etiology, thus present a big challenge in front of us. Timely, reduction of imflammation is the key to recovery from Brain Injury. Our focus is to enhance the endogenous recovery processes so that injury can be reduced. We have investigated the role of cannabinoid system, DNAse I, Metformin/AMPK and RIC to modulate immune cells (Neutrophils, macrophages, ILC etc.) to minimize cerebrovascular injury in acute and chronic phase. our future interest is to evaluate the chronic local and systemic pathology after TBI/ICH and explore the therapeutic intervention mechanism for pathological neurodegeneration.
