College of Education and Human Development Scholarships

All scholarship applications and essays must be submitted through the Augusta University Financial Aid office.

Becton Family Scholarship

Criteria: 
  1. Rising sophomore, junior, or senior who has declared a major in education
  2. Student must have a minimum GPA of 2.50
  3. The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of academic merit and financial need

Blanche Garrard Memorial Scholarship

Criteria:
  1. The student must be an undergraduate (admitted to Teacher Education) or graduate student majoring in Special Education
  2. The student must have an overall cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 2.5 (undergraduate) 3.0 (graduate) (4.0 scale)
  3. The student must have financial need which is not met from other sources
  4. The student should demonstrate potential for success in the special education field through service and extracurricular activities

Chick-Fil-A Uplift Fund 

Criteria: 

  1. The student(s) must be pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in education, Bachelor of Arts degree in education or a Master of Arts degree in education.
  2. The student(s) must be enrolled full-time and in good academic standing.
  3. The student(s) has overcome obstacles such as socioeconomic or educational disadvantage.
  4. The student(s) is the first generation in their family to attend college.

Note: Recipient (s) may receive the scholarship more than once during their academic career.

Donald B. Brigdon Education Endowed Scholarship

Criteria: 
  1. Applicants must be currently employed by the Columbia County Board of Education
  2. Applicants must be enrolled at or admitted to attend the University and must be admitted or eligible to be admitted to the College of Education
  3. Applicants must meet and maintain a minimum 2.75 GPA
  4. The applicant must submit a letter of recommendation from the Principal or their direct supervisor
  5. Preference will be given to initial teacher certification students and students who demonstrate financial need

Dr. Frank Chou Scholarship Endowment

Criteria:
  1. The student will be a rising sophomore, junior, or senior with a declared major in the College of Education
  2. Student must have a minimum  of a 3.5 overall GPA
  3. The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of academic merit and financial need

Note: An award will not be granted for the 2021-2022 academic year.

Dr. Gayle Sims Lee Memorial Scholarship

Criteria:
  1. Graduate student in the Instruction, Advanced Educational Studies, or Educational Innovation Program
  2. Recipient must be an active classroom teacher
  3. Preference given to first generation college students

Dr. Lyle R. Smith Scholarship 

Criteria:
  1. Entering or enrolled Graduate student within the College of Education at Augusta University
  2. The student must maintain an overall cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.25
  3. The student must have financial need which is not met from other sources. A recipient may receive the scholarship twice

Dr. Richard D. Harrison Scholarship Fund

Criteria:
  1. Entering or enrolled undergraduate or graduate student in the College of Education at Augusta University
  2. The student must maintain an overall cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0

Dr. Samuel Butler Hardy, III and Janet Morgan Hardy Education Endowment

Criteria:
  1. The student will be an undergraduate rising sophomore, junior, or senior with a declared major in Elementary Education
  2. Student must have a minimum  of a 3.0 overall GPA and not receiving HOPE
  3. The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of academic merit and financial need

Emory Carlton Jester Scholarship Endowment

Criteria:
  1. The student must be enrolled in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Track of the Masters of Education in Counseling Program
  2. The selection shall be based on merit and /or financial need
  3. Preference will be given to students who: demonstrate experience with volunteer and/or advocacy work in the community, are not working in the education field while enrolled, aspire to become a Licensed Professional Counselor, and is a member of Chi Sigma Iota
Note: An award will not be granted for the 2021-2022 academic year.

Estelle Patricia Berry Polite Endowment Fund

Criteria:
  1. A rising sophomore, junior or senior who has declared a major in education or graduate student pursuing an advanced degree in education
  2. The student must maintain an overall cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.00
  3. The student must have academic merit or financial need
  4. Preference is given to non-traditional students

Frank and Sara Dennis Endowment Fund

Criteria:
  1. The student must be an undergraduate or graduate student majoring in Education
  2. The student must have an overall cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 2.5 (4.0 scale)

Frank M. and Alice K. Green Scholarship 

Criteria:
  1. The student must be an undergraduate (admitted to Teacher Education) or graduate student majoring in Elementary Education
  2. The student must have an overall cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 3.0 (4.0 scale)
  3. The student must have financial need which is not met from other sources

Frank M. McMillan, III Scholarship Endowment

Criteria:
  1. The student must be an undergraduate (admitted to Teacher Education) or graduate student majoring in Special Education
  2. The student will be selected based on merit and/or financial need
  3. The scholarship may be used for tuition, room and board, books or fees
  4. The scholarship may be renewable as determined by the College of Education

George and Helen Thevaos Memorial Fund

Criteria:
  1. The student must be an undergraduate or graduate student majoring in Education
  2. The student must have an overall cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 2.5 (4.0 scale)

Harvey M. Duncan Memorial Scholarship 

Criteria: The student must be a graduate of a Richmond County High School or an employee of the Richmond County School System who is pursuing a degree in education

Janice R. Roberts Middle School Education Endowment Fund 

Criteria:
  1. The applicant must be a Graduate or Undergraduate student enrolled in the College of Education studying Middle Grades Education
  2. Student must be in good academic standing and have a GPA of 2.75 or higher

Janis V. Bargeron Memorial Scholarship 

Criteria:
  1. The student must be an undergraduate or graduate student majoring in education at Augusta University
  2. The student must be enrolled in a full time course load
  3. The student must maintain an minimum of 2.0 Overall GPA (4.0 scale)
  4. The recipient must be a graduate of a high school in the public school system of Richmond County. However, in the event no graduate of the Richmond County public system applies, the scholarship may be awarded to a person who meets all other criteria except this one

Jo & Kyle Smith  Scholarship

Criteria:
  1. The applicant must be an alumnus/a of Augusta University who pursuing an advanced degree in a graduate program within the College of Education
  2. The applicant must have achieved a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0
  3. The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of academic merit and financial need

John Milledge Smith, Jr. Memorial Scholarship 

Criteria:
  1. The student must be an undergraduate (admitted to Teacher Education) or graduate student majoring in a teaching field
  2. The student must have an overall cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 3.0 (4.0 scale)
  3. The student must have financial need which is not met from other sources
  4. The student should demonstrate potential for success in the education field

Louise P. White Memorial Scholarship 

Criteria:
  1. The student must be an undergraduate (admitted to Teacher Education) or graduate student majoring in Elementary Education or public school Music Education.
  2. Applicant must achieve a 2.5 GPA
  3. The student must have financial need which is not met from other sources
  4. The student should demonstrate potential for success in the education field

Kinesiology Scholarship 

  1.  The need-based scholarships will be awarded to undergraduate students with a major in Kinesiology.
  2. Preference will be given to student that demonstrate financial need
  3. The student must have a minimum of 2.75 overall GPA.
  4. Applicants will need to complete a short essay on financial need.

Michael Andrew Cisick Endowment Fund

Criteria:
  1. The student must be an undergraduate or graduate student majoring in Education
  2. The student must have an overall cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 2.5 (4.0 scale)

Renee Pool Russo Memorial Scholarship Endowment 

Criteria:
  1. The student must be a rising junior undergraduate (admitted to Teacher Education) majoring in Special Education with a career interest in mild disabilities
  2. The student must have an overall cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 3.0 (4.0 scale)
  3. The student must have financial need which is not met from other sources
  4. The student should demonstrate potential for success in the education field
  5. The student should intend to seek a teaching position in the Richmond County Public School System

Robert Lee Henry Scholarship

Criteria:
  1. Student with a Bachelor of Music Education degree entering or enrolled Graduate student within the College of Education at Augusta University
  2. The recipient must be a student with a Bachelor of Music Education degree
  3. The student must maintain an overall cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0
  4. The student must have financial need which is not met from other sources

Federal Teach Grant

A Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant is different from other federal student grants because it requires you to take certain kinds of classes in order to get the grant, and then do a certain kind of job to keep the grant from turning into a loan.
