The Surgical Oncology Service at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University provides comprehensive management for adult patients with solid tumors.
Uniquely trained to collaborate within the framework of complete cancer care, our surgical oncologists are focused on, and highly skilled in, the techniques of cancer surgery, each with versatility and special interests in many of the latest surgical techniques and treatments. Our surgeons are an essential part of an expert interdisciplinary team that looks at the big picture of cancer care before, during and after surgery for collaborative management to ensure optimum results.
Patients with a wide array of cancers benefit from the coordinated efforts and close cooperation of an interdisciplinary team that includes medical oncology and radiation oncology; it's all facilitated by our outpatient site, the Comprehensive Cancer Clinic.
Special areas of interest include:
Our Surgical Oncology section actively participates in clinical and translational research to bring the newest promising developments from our laboratories to our patients.
Education is also integral to our mission. We regularly hold interdisciplinary cancer conferences in breast, liver, pancreatic, gastrointestinal and skin cancers. These conferences educate our students, residents and fellows in cancer care, and are a forum for our cancer team to manage cancer cases and determine surgical results and further treatments.
Our section plays a key role in the clinical, basic research and research activities of the Comprehensive Cancer Clinic. The clinical faculty supervises and participates in all general oncologic surgery and provides undergraduate and postgraduate training in General Surgery.
