Course Description: In this course, students will function as substitute interns on a surgical service. Students are lottery assigned to a specific surgical service and will function as an integral part of that service. Students are expected to initiate the clinical database, begin diagnostic measures and where possible, perform surgical procedures with supervision. Additionally, students will participate in teaching responsibilities, conferences, clinics, operating and night call experiences of the service. Surgical services include Acute Care Surgery, Minimally Invasive Surgery, Neurosurgery, Otolaryngology, Orthopedic Surgery, Pediatric Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Surgical Oncology, Transplant, Urology and Vascular Surgery. 

 

 

Otolaryngology Off-Campus Externship

Course Description: This course will familiarize students with diseases of the ears, nose and throat and will emphasize diagnostic techniques to include physical examination, radiologic testing, audiometrics and endoscopic procedures. Students are introduced to the principles of head and neck surgery, facial plastic surgery, endoscopy and neurotology. They will participate and observe the specialty of Otolaryngology by participating in the care of clinic and hospital patients.
