Comparison of audiologic screening modalities in patients with cystic fibrosis
The purpose of this study is to establish a safe and effective hearing screening protocol for pediatric cystic fibrosis (CF) patients at Augusta University Medical Center. Specifically, we will test patients' hearing using a hearing screening app on a smart phone/tablet, in-office screening with audiometer and otoacoustic emissions (OAE), and a traditional audiogram. We will compare the results of the screening tools to the gold standard audiogram to determine which test, if any, would be the most accurate and efficient screening tool
Eligibility Criteria
- List the inclusion/exclusion criteria: Inclusion: Patients ages ? 4 years Patients with a diagnosis of cystic fibrosis Patients reaching appropriate developmental milestones Patients attending cystic fibrosis clinic at the investigator?s hospital Between July 1, 2022 and July 30 2023 Exclusion: Patients younger than 4 or unable to obtain comprehensive audiogram Patients with developmental delays that may cause suboptimal screening results Patients with pre-existing hearing impairment requiring hearing aids
