We would like to speak with African American women who live in the 18 counties of the CSRA and who have been pregnant in the last 12 months. Women may meet in individual interviews. We will ask questions about your experiences deciding whether or not to breastfeed, your experiences attempting to breastfeed in the past, and accessing lactation support while you were pregnant and after you gave birth. We will also ask about your knowledge regarding breast and ovarian cancer, how to prevent it, and screen for it. Your input regarding a breastfeeding intervention study will be asked as well. As part of this study, you will also be asked to fill out several questionnaires about what you know about breastfeeding and cancer prevention. Adult African American women will be invited to participate in a breastfeeding education and support intervention, developed based on the results of the survey. Participants will receive 4 education sessions about breastfeeding during their last trimester of pregnancy, and then follow-up with breastfeeding peer support for up to eight weeks postpartum. A second group of women will be asked to complete a one-time anonymous survey about their breastfeeding experience at or around 8 weeks postpartum - near their child's 2 month well check up.
