Greetings Class of 2026!

On behalf of the entire Office of Student Affairs at the Medical College of Georgia (MCG) at Augusta University, welcome to our MCG family! My name is Dr. Chris Watson and I am your First year Class Dean. As a pediatric intensivist, when I am not at the school, you may find me across campus at the Children's Hospital of Georgia, or even outside enjoying a run on the local trails and greenways. Dr. Jennifer Tucker, Associate Dean for Student Affairs, and I both very much look forward to meeting you, learning from you, and joining you as you embark on this incredible journey. You each bring your own unique story and set of amazing accomplishments, and now you join a diverse community of learns that will challenge and inspire you even further.

Throughout the rigorous MCG 3+ curriculum spread across Georgia at all our regional MCG campuses, our exceptional faculty and staff will guide, advise, coach, and support you as you continue to grow academically, personally, and professionally. During your time at MCG, our Office of Student Affairs team will also help you in reaching your full potential by building community and offering innovative student services, programs, and resources - such as academic and career advising - all designed to support your self-care, wellness, and growth as a competent, empathetic, and ethical physician.

Our team has planned a required, in-person two-day general orientation to MCG for all first-year students beginning at 08:00AM on July 25th followed by the immediate start of the "Orientation to Medicine" course on July 27th in which you will automatically be enrolled along with all your fall semester courses by June 20th. Prior to orientation, an online 'Technology Orientation' course will be shared with you to be completed before arrival. Please be sure to also submit the AU Student Health Services immunization record demonstrating required proof of vaccination initiation or prior immunity at least two weeks in advance of orientation. Finally, we have included a draft calendar of the first 9 months of your medical education to assist in your planning for personal needs and holidays. Please be mindful that the dates of exams and other curricular elements may still change.

Once again, congratulations and welcome to our MCG family! We truly believe you are the future leaders of our medical profession, and we look forward to meeting each of you soon. If we can help in any way, please contact us, our orientation coordinator, Alise Vega AVEGA@augusta.edu, or our office at MCGMEDSTUDENT@augusta.edu.
